The most senior married gaoler was allocated these rooms for his family to live in. We know that at one time a family with 5 children occupied them.

Believed to be originally painted in the 1880s gaol days, this is one of three on the walls and the best preserved.

In the gaol days, armed gaolers in two corner towers and one above the exit door, watched over 4 seperate exercise yards. The walls were gradually removed, the last one going in the 1960s.
